The Matta’s Hill golf course began construction in 1993, with a planned completion date in 1994. While it was initially difficult to get the project off the ground, most residents considered the golf course to be an appreciated addition to the neighborhood, welcoming the new jobs it provided and the economic recovery it promised.

When the golf course was built, Braddock had been in steady decline since the decline in steel manufacturing, and the borough was suffering from disrepair and economic hardship. Many saw the Grand View Golf Course as an open door to future development and revitalization in the community, to encourage Braddock to recover to what it once was.
